REVIEW: Transformers Rise Of The Beasts Is A ‘Great Popcorn Flick’

By Gary

The seventh instalment in the Transformers franchise brings beast mode to the big screen.

Set in between the Bumblebee movie and the first Transformers (2007) film.

The film takes us back to the ’90s, and introduces a new faction of Transformers, the Maximals.

Who join the Autobots as allies in the battle for Earth against the planet killer, Unicron.

Great popcorn flick, hugely enjoyable and great visual effects.

I found myself smiling for most of the runtime. For the first time in years, I kept thinking ‘Transformers are so damn cool.’

There are so many beautiful shots with these CGI creations, so many moments to screenshot the image and frame it.

The action is miles better than the last three entries in the franchise.

The movie has a bit of everything; cheesy jokes, amazing visuals, some decent story with the human characters and the Transformers and even some genuine jump scares which I wasn’t expecting.

All this being said you can go in and watch this and switch your brain off.

Peter Cullen is always perfect as Optimus Prime and this is undoubtedly some of his best work in the live action films.

Its what Michael Bay was going for in his later installments but done better, an Optimus Prime who’s not the ideal leader but a selfish, broken one carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

The Maximals in this could have been super cheesy but they work, especially with the voices of Michelle Yeoh (Airazor) and Pete Davidson (Mirage).

All in all, if you have watched previous transformers films watch this film you won’t be disappointed and specially the action sequences are amazing.

There is a scope for the sequels as this movie has a post credit scene that sets more to come up.

My Rating: 8/10.
