Historic Weekend In The Cumbria Cricket League As League Lead Changes Hands

Furness 2nd enjoyed a historic weekend in the Cumbria Cricket League as Ulverston toppled Dalton for the league lead.

There is no change at the top of the Premier Division as the top three all won on Saturday, June 3.

Carlisle made the trip to Whitehaven where winning the toss they put the home side into bat.

Nico Watt took 5 wickets for 25 as Whitehaven were bowled out for 104 with Josh Foster scoring 32 runs.

Chasing Graeme Ion scored 29 as Josh Stirling and Michael Slack took Carlisle to 105.

Second placed Workington won the toss and batted first with Thomas Fox scoring 74 and Callum Sutton 79 as they reached 293 against Haverigg as Glenn Chesher took 4 wickets for 56 runs.

Haverigg’s Drew Postlethwaite scored 67 as the visitors were bowled out for 147.

Lindal Moor traveled to Furness and after winning the toss the got off to the worst possible start with the bat as the first three wickets fell for 1 run.

Aseem Wadhwa came in and made 82 as Lindal Moor reached 171 with Josh Shaw taking 6 wickets for 44.

Yash Dubey made 62 and Lewis Gribbin 59 to set Furness on the road to 173 with a 106 run partnership as Nathan Waterston and Mark Daly completed the run chase.

Millom won the toss and put Egremont into the field and struggled to 79 all our with Braith Conner scoring 19 as Coady Scott and Jack Thompson took 4 wickets each.

Getting off to a bad start the top three of Egremont’s batters all fell for no runs before Owen Thompson’s 13 and Vickram Balakrishnan’s 24 steadied the innings as they reached 83.

Cleator won the toss at Cockermouth and were bowled out for 101 with Douglas Hughes scoring 44 as Alex Grainger took 5 wickets.

Chasing Cockermouth lost Ryan Carruthers for 35 as Alex Grainger’s 43 and Matthew Sempill’s 19 took them to 106.

Keswick’s trip to Wigton started well as they won the toss and decided to bat first and made 227 with Paul Hindmarch making 98.

Wigton’s Lewis Little’s 49 and George Spark’s 25 helped take the home side to 228 with Paul Hindmarch taking 3 wickets.

Saturday, June 10, Carlisle welcome Furness as Workington head to Lindal Moor and Cockermouth travel to Haverigg.

Cleator face Millom, Egremont play Wigton and Keswick host Whitehaven.

In Division One the top two meet on Saturday, June 3, as Dalton had a horrible match against Ulverston.

Batting first after winning the toss visiting Ulverston made 126 with Owen Dryden scoring 42 as Daniel Sharpe took 6 wickets for 23 runs.

Dalton then struggled as Paul Storey took 5 and Stuart Cooper 4 to bowl out Dalton for 49.

Furness took advantage of Dalton losing in a potentially historic day at Kirkby in Furness.

Batting first after winning the toss Bradley Chapples and Harris Woods both made centuries as Furness reached 300.

In reply Harris Wood then took 7 wickets for 51 runs as Kirkby finished on 143 with Paul New scoring 36.

Vickerstown were successful chased down by Millom.

Losing the toss Vickerstown were put into bat and John Burns made 59 as they were bowled out for 198.

In reply Michael Wilson’s 89 and Fred Mcverry’s 73 took Millom to 199.

Batting first after winning the toss Cockermouth’s Reegan Scott made 132 as they finished on 230 with Seascale’s Jack Barwise took 5 wickets for 78 runs.

Seascale fell 21 runs short of Cockmouth’s total on 209 with Adam Brown 48 leading the way.

Workington won the toss at Hawcoat Park and decided to bat first and were bowled out for 119 with Joshua Burns making 39.

Callum Lucas’ 43 helped Hawcoat Park reach 123.

On June 10 leaders Ulverston host Hawcoat Park while Furness welcome Seascale and Dalton travel to Millom.

Vickerstown head to Cockermouth and Workington face Kirkby in Furness.

In Division Two Whitehaven 2nd, Haverigg 2nd and Egremont 2nd are clear of the rest of the league after the games on Saturday, June 3.

Leaders Whitehaven 2nd went to Barrow where they won the toss and put the home side into bat.

The home team struggled to get going with Ross McMurdo top scoring with 19 as they were bowled out for 87 with Sachin George taking 4 wickets for 20 runs.

Chasing Kian Larmour and Jason Spires both reached 17 as Whitehaven made 88.

Lindal Moor 2nd won the toss at Haverigg 2nd and batted first with Dave Mansergh making 23 as they were dismissed for 90.

Anthony Johnson’s 41 and Steve Chapman’s 32 helped steer Haverigg to 94 and victory.

Cleator 2nd made the short trip to Egremont 2nd where they won the toss and decided to bat first with Steven Wishart reaching 89 as Cleator hit 178 from their 40 overs.

Elizabeth Priddle’s 39 and Jack Hodgson’s 33 took Egremont home to 182 after Cohen Henry fell short of his half century on 47.

A split weekend as on Saturday, June 10, Dalton 2nd host Ulverston 2nd and leaders Whitehaven 2nd face Lindal Moor 2nd.

On Sunday, June 11, Cleator 2nd welcome Haverigg 2nd.
